Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is backing the upcoming Telugu fantasy film, Mirai, starring Teja Sajja. During a press meet of the film, the filmmaker was asked whether he would like to helm a historical epic. To this, he recalled his ambitious project, Takht, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Anil Kapoor, among others.
He said, “I was on the onset of making a feature film that was a historical period. And for various circumstances, including the pandemic, there was a stop to that film. Sumit Roy wrote the screenplay of the film. I had researched the film for two and a half years. It was heartbreaking when I couldn’t make it. I did dabble. I think every film has its time and fate. Hopefully, in my trajectory, I am still very young, there will be such a film.”

However, the filmmaker added that he does not feel he is capable enough to handle the technical finesse required to tell a story of a big magnitude. He praised Mirai director Karthik Gattamneni for his skills and continued, “I firmly believe the kind of technical finesse and the kind of passion to tell a story of this magnitude is something I am not even sure I am capable of. When I see filmmakers like Karthik tell stories, I feel like I am a student, more than a filmmaker, and I am learning. When I watch the brilliance of Baahubali and when I see the passion and conviction of Mirai, I feel I don’t know if I am capable. And it is always better to kind of acknowledge your weaknesses and not pretend it is your strength.”
