Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday announced financial aid of Rs 25 lakh to the families of all 11 persons who died in a stampede outside the city’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4.
The franchise said that the payment was the beginning of an initiative called RCB cares, which it described as a “long-term commitment for meaningful action that begins by honouring their [victims’] memory”.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru said that the amount was not just financial aid, but a “promise of compassion, unity and ongoing care”.

The stampede on June 4 had taken place at Gate Number 3 of the stadium, where fans had gathered to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory in the Indian Premier League.
A day after the stampede, the franchise had announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of those who died. The Karnataka government had also announced compensation of Rs 25 lakh for them.
On June 5, the state government suspended five police officials for being “irresponsible and negligent”.
However, the Central Administrative Tribunal quashed the suspension of one of the officials, Vikash Kumar Vikash, later in June.
The Karnataka government revoked the suspension of the other four officials on July 28. The four officials were former Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar H Tekkannavar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cubbon Park Division) C Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Station Inspector AK Girish.
