IPL Fastest Hundreds: On his Punjab Kings captaincy debut, Shreyas Iyer came close to his maiden IPL century against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Though he bettered his previous best of 96 by a run and remained unbeaten, Iyer was stranded at the non-striker’s end as his teammate Shashank Singh clobbered five successive boundaries of the last five balls to finish on 243/5 in 20 overs.
Iyer, therefore, missed out on scoring one of the quickest centuries ever in the league and his first ton in the tournament. Overall, Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest IPL century in 30 balls during his spell-binding 175 not out against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in April 2013.
