IPL 2025: Mentor Zaheer Khan opens up on LSG`s challenges throughout the season

In the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Lucknow Super Giants suffered a loss by six wickets.

Following the loss, LSG`s mentor Zaheer Khan opened up about the challenges the side was facing throughout IPL 2025.

“We obviously made the conscious effort of the challenges which we are facing in the beginning of the season, which is losing a few of our main bowlers to injuries. We consciously made the effort, you know, we`re not really going to pay too much attention to that, and we`re still going to find a way of putting up games of cricket together and finding ways of winning the match. That is something was the process which everyone was aligned to,” said the former Team India pacer during the post-match presentation.

The 46-year-old former speedster also spoke about the positives from LSG`s underwhelming IPL 2025 campaign.

“There are positives, a lot of positives, the stability was evident with regard to batting, but with regard to bowling, we were trying to figure out the combinations, we were trying to figure out the options which can get us over the line. And that is something was the story was right throughout the season,” he said.

During the match, RCB`s stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma delivered a match-winning knock of 85 runs off just 33 deliveries, including eight boundaries and six maximums. Shouldering him was Mayank Agarwal, who, too, stayed unbeaten on 41 runs in 23 balls. His knock included five boundaries. The duo helped the side seal a spot in IPL 2025 Qualifier 1.

RCB will now clash against Punjab, who are standing at the top of the IPL 2025 points table. Both teams will lock horns against each other on May 29, while Gujarat Titans, who slipped to third, will face Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday.

Bengaluru pulled off the third-highest successful run chase in the tournament`s history, courtesy of an unbeaten 107-run partnership between Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma. LSG finished seventh in the points table, with six victories and eight defeats in their 14 matches, and they have 12 points.
