iPhone 16e Shocks Europe — Beats Even the iPhone 15

Apple’s iPhone 16e was launched at the end of February. It was an odd move by Apple, considering the company hadn’t touched its “budget” iPhone SE series since 2022. But it turns out there is a demand for a more wallet-friendly iPhone. According to the latest data from Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 16e is now one of the top 10 smartphones in Europe.

iPhone 16e breaks into Europe’s top 10 list

According to Counterpoint, the iPhone 16e cracked the top 10 list in Europe about a month after going on sale. It accounts for 2% of all smartphone sales in Europe for March 2025. It also sits above the older iPhone 15, but below Samsung’s budget Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A55 smartphones.

Also, what’s interesting about this list is that pretty much the whole iPhone 16 family made the cut. Except for the Plus model. The most popular model is the iPhone 16 Pro, followed by the Pro Max, and the base iPhone 16 model. In fourth and fifth place are Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 models. This is followed by the Galaxy S24 in sixth place.

It’s actually interesting to see that the iPhone 16e is so well-received. For a bit of context, the iPhone 16e launched with a retail price of $599. This is by no means cheap. In fact, calling it mid-tier would also be a bit of a stretch, especially when you consider there are other smartphones out there offering better value.

However, it turns out customers actually want a cheaper iPhone. This isn’t the first time we’re seeing the iPhone 16e enjoy a bit of success. Earlier reports suggested that Apple enjoyed a stellar Q1 thanks to the iPhone 16e.

Future of the iPhone “e” series

Just shortly after the launch of the iPhone 16e, there were rumors already suggesting that Apple plans to make this an annual affair. This was before the phone was officially released and before the numbers came in. However, following all these reports, we imagine that Apple probably feels justified in releasing more iPhone “e” models to capitalize on the success.

In fact, a report in April claims that Apple plans on launching the iPhone 17e in May 2026. It’s too early to tell what kind of changes we can expect.
