Instagram appears to be pushing even more features to the platform to boost user engagement. Last month, the platform introduced a new 3:2 aspect ratio to match the native format of most phone cameras. The update helped cut the need to crop the images to fit the predefined aspect ratio. Now, Instagram has teased yet another feature, which will soon allow you to rearrange your profile grid.
You’ll soon be able to rearrange profile grids on Instagram
To catch you up, the “edit grid” feature was first spotted by an app reverse engineer, Alessandro Paluzzi, back in 2022. Well, it’s finally here. Instagram didn’t confirm when the feature would be available, but it surely did tease it.
So, what’s interesting about this feature? Once available in the app, you’ll be able to rearrange your posts in a way that you want them to appear on your profile grid. Of course, you’ll have to tap that “edit grid” button before you make those changes.
Besides rearranging the grid, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri also announced that the team is exploring a new way to post without broadcasting it to your followers’ feeds. Instagram wants you to feel less intimated about posting often, and without any pressure. Similar to the “edit grid” feature, there’s no rollout date available for this one, too.
Trial Reels is rolling out to everyone
On top of allowing users to rearrange their Instagram profile grid, the social media platform is now rolling out something called “trial reels” to everyone. Trial Reels will allow you to publish Reels while bypassing your followers’ feed. Instagram will then recommend those Reels to non-followers.
Mosseri says that the purpose of this feature is to allow creators to experiment with different kinds of content that may not be well-received by their current followers. He further notes that trial reels will “give everyone greater freedom to explore their creativity in a low-pressure way.“
