Hostilities between India and Pakistan escalated on Thursday. India repulsed multiple aerial assaults by Pakistan which used missiles and drones to target more than 15 military and civilian installations in the border States of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Punjab. Pakistan Air Force two fighter jets were gunned down by Indian air defence systems. Pakistan also admitted to this fact.
J&K authorities said there have been no reports of causality so far or heavy damage to the infrastructure though unconfirmed reports stated that an objected landed at the Jammu airport.
Pakistan re-started firing missiles and kamikaze drones, which are explosive leaden, on Thursday evening at around 8 pm, targeting the Jammu airport, RS Pura and some other parts of the Union Territory. They were intercepted from the Indian side by Russian origin S-400 and indigenous Akash missile air defence systems deployed all along the forward areas on the International Border and the Line of Control, said sources.
Aerial incursions
About 7-8 aerial incursions in J&K till 8.30 pm were neutralised by the Indian Air Defence System. Pakistan simultaneously opened heavy shelling in the RS Pura sector and Samba sector, both along the International Border (IB), which were matched with appropriate response from the Indian armed forces.

Pakistan also targeted forward areas of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and Punjab.
The authorities resorted to blackouts in the places under fire from across the border.
Earlier in the day, India targeted air defence radars of Pakistan, engaging a number of military targets in northern and western part of the country.
Pakistan used missiles and drones to zero in on military installations in Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj on the May 7 night.
“These were neutralised by the integrated counter UAS grid and air defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement was also read out two women officers – Colonel Sophia Quereshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh – and Foreign Secretary in a press conference held in the evening.
They also reiterated that any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response, the Ministry reiterated in its readout.
Pak’s target
As Pakistan continued its offensive, Indian Armed Forces on Thursday morning targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan.
“Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” the Ministry stressed.
Pakistan’s Air Defence unit of HQ-9 air defence launchers have suffered heavy damage in the latest counter offensive launched in ten cities, said sources. It is learnt that the unit was developed with the assistance of China.
Indian Air Force activated S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems since Wednesday night against incursions from Pakistan. The IAF controls the air defence system in case of war.
Metal debris of fired missile was found scattered at some places in a village in Amritsar district on Thursday. Some locals found the metal parts in open fields and houses at Jethuwal village of the district. Though villagers claimed they were part of a missile, local police said the objects can be identified only after an investigation.
Pakistan simultaneously increased the intensity of its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control using mortars and heavy calibre artillery in areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
16 killed
Sixteen lives have so far been lost, including three women and five children, due to Pakistani firing at innocent persons. Of them, ten have succumbed in Poonch sector alone and people coming under heavy shelling have been shifted to safer places, Jammu and Kashmir administration sources stated.
India was compelled to respond to bring mortar and artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt, the MoD stated. The Ministry said Indian Armed Forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military.
Sources in the political parties said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday told an all-party meeting that at least 100 terrorists were neutralised in the first strike of Operation Sindoor in the intervening night of May 6-7.
