IND vs ENG Tests | `I don`t think he will be available…`: Agarkar on Bumrah

The Board of Control for Cricket in India`s (BCCI) chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, on Wednesday announced India`s Test squad for the England series. Later, the former Team India pacer also opened up on lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah`s availability for the England series.

“I don`t think he will be available for all five tests as far as the physio and the doctors have told us. They will take a call on whether he will be available for three-four tests. If he is available for three-four tests, he is going to win us a few test matches…We are happy that he is a part of the squad,” said Agarkar during a press conference.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been appointed as India`s new Test captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be his deputy. Team India under Gill`s captaincy will clash against England for a five-match Test series, starting June 20.

Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the pace attack of the Indian side. He will be shouldered by Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur.

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah suffered a major injury, following which he missed out on India`s crucial campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025.

The Indian cricket team is set to tour England in 2025 for a five-match Test series, part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship.

The series will take place from June to August 2025, with matches at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord`s (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London).

The series will also mark India`s first bilateral series after the Test retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Speaking about their retirements, Agarkar said, “When guys like these retire, it will always be big holes to fill. Ashwin retired a few months back as well. Those three guys are the stalwarts of our cricket. It is always difficult. I have had conversations with both of them”.

India`s Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
