IMD issues heat wave alert in isolated pockets of Gujarat till April 17, Kandla airport sizzles at 44.6 degree Celsius | Ahmedabad News

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave alert in isolated pockets of Gujarat till April 17, warning a “rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degree Celsius”.

Even as the daytime temperatures rose notably in parts of Saurashtra and were above normal to appreciably above normal in most parts of the state Tuesday, Kandla airport recorded the hottest temperature across the state at 44.6 degree Celsius, according to the IMD.

The IMD issued the heat wave as further “rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degree Celsius till Thursday is very likely to be in the range of 41-44 degree Celsius” across the state between April 15 till 17.

“The heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets from April 15 till 17 across the state while discomfort conditions due to hot and humid air are very likely to prevail over the coastal areas of South Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch during this period,” the IMD warning states. For Wednesday and Thursday, heat wave conditions are expected to prevail in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha districts of North Gujarat region; in Rajkot and Kutch districts of Saurashtra region. Other centres that recorded high temperatures included Rajkot at 42.8 degree Celsius, Surendranagar at 42.5, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar at 42.3, Amreli 42, Bhuj 41.2, Deesa 41.5 and Bhavnagar at 40.9 degree Celsius.
