Neha Dhupia has always expressed her opinions openly, and she has recently addressed the public’s attention regarding her marriage to Angad Bedi. The couple’s private wedding in 2018 surprised many, as the announcement came unexpectedly. Their daughter Mehr arrived just six months later, which eventually led to lots of public speculation.
During a recent conversation with Mid-Day, Neha Dhupia mentioned that, rather than celebrating her wedding, people were more focused on questioning the timeline of her pregnancy. She said, ““I married Angad and after six months we welcomed our daughter. But the biggest conversation around our wedding was, ‘How did the baby come in six months? Ye ho kaise gaya?”Â

Neha Dhupia revealed that these comments have not stopped. She added, “Even now, I see stories and tags on female actors who get pregnant before marriage. I feel, at least, I’m on the same list as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt. But honestly, this is ridiculous.”Â

Neena Gupta had her daughter Masaba with cricketer Vivian Richards, while Alia Bhatt tied the knot with Ranbir Kapoor in 2022 and welcomed their daughter Raha later that year.Â
For Neha, the negative reactions also helped in a positive development. She started “Freedom to Feed,” which focuses on pregnancy, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. She explained, “We need to normalise discussions around women’s health instead of treating them as taboo. I wanted to spread awareness, break myths, and remind women they are not alone in this journey. These subjects should not be swept under the rug. If I’m being trolled for talking about things that affect half the population, then so be it. I’m not going to stop.”Â
During a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Neha Dhupia discussed her unconventional pregnancy and wedding. The couple chose to keep their ceremony very private, owing to the early stages of her pregnancy. She said, “You are always questioned that ‘Are you together because this happened, or you genuinely want to be together?’ It worked out well. There’s no other way I would want it.”Â
Neha and Angad decided to have a marriage ceremony that was simple, with a guest list of just thirty to forty people, which came as a surprise to many. The guests included cricketer friends Ajay Jadeja and Ashish Nehra, VJ-host Gaurav Kapur, and Karan Johar. Eventually, in November 2018, the couple joyfully welcomed their daughter Mehr, and then their son Guriq arrived in October 2021.
