Allegations of Police Brutality in Rajendra Nagar

By Naveed Uddin Khan Uzair
Hyderabad: In a tragic and deeply concerning incident, Mohammad Irfan, a resident of Hyderabad, reportedly lost his life after allegedly being subjected to third-degree torture by the Rajendra Nagar Police. The incident has sparked outrage among the victim’s family and local community, raising questions about police brutality and the need for accountability.
The Incident:
According to reports, Mohammad Irfan’s wife had filed a complaint at the Rajendra Nagar Police Station due to ongoing domestic disputes. Following this, Irfan was summoned to the police station. Allegedly, he was subjected to severe physical assault—referred to as “third-degree torture”—inside the police premises.
Family members claim that Irfan, along with his brothers, was taken to the station without any proper procedure or legal counsel. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Irfan’s screams could be heard from outside the police station, indicating severe physical abuse.
Upon his release, Irfan reportedly collapsed outside the police station. His family rushed him to a nearby clinic at Chintalmet Chowk, which then referred him to Osmania General Hospital. Tragically, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, stating that he had succumbed to his injuries.
Family’s Accusations:
Speaking to the media, Irfan’s brother Mohammad Sadiq alleged that:
-
The police used excessive force and inflicted brutal injuries on Irfan.
-
His screams were audible from outside the police station, yet no action was taken to stop the assault.
-
After coming out of the police station, Irfan vomited and collapsed, showing signs of severe trauma.
Sadiq also expressed frustration over the police’s apathy, stating that the officers dismissed their pleas for help and refused to acknowledge the brutality. “Our brother was vomiting and in severe pain, but the police ignored us,” he added.
Demands for Justice:
The grieving family is demanding a full-fledged investigation into the incident and immediate suspension of the officers involved. “If there is even a little truth in this, all the policemen need to be suspended. They do not have the right to beat up people like this, especially in a family matter,” Sadiq stated.
Community leaders and activists have also voiced their concerns, demanding accountability and legal action against those responsible for Irfan’s death. “This is not just a case of negligence; this is sheer brutality. Justice must be served,” one activist remarked.
Police Response:
The Rajendra Nagar Police have yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations. Calls for transparency and a fair investigation are growing louder, with citizens demanding an independent inquiry to ensure impartiality.
Postmortem Report Awaited:
Irfan’s body has been sent for a postmortem at Osmania General Hospital, and the report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death. The family remains at the hospital, demanding swift justice and action against the officers involved.
This tragic incident has once again brought the issue of police brutality into the limelight. As the community waits for answers, the question remains—Will there be justice for Mohammad Irfan?
