
Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), popularly known as Hyderabad Airport, has made global headlines by securing 4th position among the world’s fastest-growing aviation hubs, according to recent international rankings. This achievement underscores the airport’s rapid development and its rising prominence in global air connectivity.
Impressive Growth in Passenger Capacity
As per aviation analytics, Hyderabad recorded a 25.6% year-on-year increase in scheduled seats between May 2024 and May 2025. In May 2025 alone, the airport managed over 1.66 million seats, reflecting a surge in both domestic and international traffic. This growth places RGIA ahead of many well-established international airports, making it one of the top-performing airports globally.
Expansion of Routes and Services
The strong growth is attributed to the expansion of domestic flight routes and the strengthening of international connectivity. RGIA continues to attract new airline partnerships and increase flight frequencies, positioning Hyderabad as a major aviation hub in South Asia.
Growing List of Direct International Flights
RGIA is also expanding its global reach, with ongoing efforts to launch direct connectivity to Kitakyushu, Japan. The airport currently operates direct international flights to the following destinations:

In FY 2024–25, Dubai emerged as the top international route from Hyderabad, with 93,000 monthly passengers. It was followed by Doha (42,000), Abu Dhabi (38,000), Jeddah (31,000), and Singapore (31,000).
Hyderabad Airport’s inclusion in the top global aviation rankings showcases its rising international stature and positions it as a key player in India’s civil aviation growth story.
