Huawei’s Next Tri-Fold Is Coming — And It’s Packing Upgrades

Well, Huawei continues its work in the foldable phone market. The Chinese tech giant released its first-generation tri-fold device, the Huawei Mate XT, last September. With its fancy design and powerful features, the model drew significant attention. Now, a successor appears to be on the way. Rumours say that Huawei won’t keep users waiting long for the second-generation tri-fold, which the company plans to upgrade with a better camera and chipset.

Huawei’s second tri-fold is coming, may bring chipset and camera upgrades

Digital Chat Station, known for its reliable leaks on Weibo, has shared the first details about the Huawei Mate XT 2. According to the source, the foldable phone is set to launch in the second half of 2025, meaning users won’t have to wait much longer.

According to the report, the Mate XT 2 will have the same screen as the original. However, this should definitely not worry users. Apart from the screen, it is said that there will be significant changes in hardware, such as the chipset and camera.

Huawei will continue to use its in-house Kirin chips in the new model. The report says that the brand will power the phone with a new Kirin chipset manufactured using the “N-1 node” process. The source hasn’t confirmed the exact name of the processor, but many speculate it could be the Kirin 9020. For those who don’t know, the original model arrived with the Kirin 9010.

Another major upgrade on the foldable will be on the camera side. Unfortunately, the source isn’t sharing details about the upcoming changes to the camera at the moment. Considering Huawei’s history with cameras, we can say that users can expect a better experience.

A look back at what the Huawei Mate XT offered

Huawei equipped the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT, with a 10.2-inch LTPO OLED panel. Depending on how users fold the device, it offers a 6.4-inch display and a 7.9-inch screen in dual-display mode.

Huawei powers the smartphone with the Kirin 9010 chipset. It pairs this with 16 GB of RAM and offers storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

The phone features 50MP, 12MP, and 12MP sensors on the back, along with an 8MP selfie camera on the front. It also includes a 5600mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.
