Huawei just announced the weirdest flip foldable yet

Summary: The Huawei Pura X is now official, probably the weirdest flip foldable we’ve seen yet. This phone comes with a 16:10 main display, and it’s more a hybrid between a flip foldable and a book-style foldable. It does include two displays, and when you fold it, you’ll also need to rotate it to use the phone in portrait phone when folded. We still don’t know if it’ll be coming to global markets.

Huawei has just announced its “unexpected product” that was teased for a while. Huawei’s chairman gave us an idea of what to expect from this phone a couple of days ago, and the device is now here. It’s called the Huawei Pura X.

The Huawei Pura X is probably the weirdest flip foldable we’ve seen thus far

The Huawei Pura X is kind of a hybrid between flip and book-style foldable smartphones, in a way. It’s considered a flip phone, but it’s the weirdest flip foldable that we’ve seen yet, that’s for sure.

This is kind of a new type of a foldable, actually. Why? Well, it’s notably wider than a regular flip phone. When unfolded, you’re getting a 16:10 display, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s 22:9 aspect ratio display.

That’s a huge difference, actually, in both terms of looks and use. Just take a look at the featured image above and you’ll understand that. When you fold this thing, you need to rotate it in order to be in portrait mode. It weird.

We don’t know if it will be coming to global markets

When folded, you feel like you have a very tiny book-style foldable in the hand, when unfolded, it’s like a small tablet, kind of. This phone did launch in China today, and we don’t know if it’ll make its way to global markets. You can see the promo video that Huawei published below, though.

There is a 6.3-inch 2120 x 1320 main display on this smartphone, with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The Huawei Pura X also has a 3.5-inch cover display with a 980 x 980 resolution. Huawei did confirm that you can take calls, play games, use messaging applications, and a lot more with the cover display. It seems like you’ll be able to do pretty much anything on it. Both of those displays offer a 120Hz refresh rate, and both are OLED panels.

It supports 60W wired and 40W wireless charging

A 4,720mAh battery sits inside of this smartphone. The phone supports 60W wired and 40W wireless charging. The SoC is not yet known, while the phone is IPX8 rated for water resistance. A fingerprint scanner is embedded into the power/lock key.

A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.6 aperture) is used here, with a RYYB sensor. A 40-megapixel ultrawide camera sits on the back (also a RYYB sensor), while there is also an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with a 3.5x optical zoom included. Huawei also opted to include a 1.5MP color sensor here.

There is also a special ‘Collector’s Edition’ model

The Huawei Pura X starts at CNY7,499 ($1,037) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model. The pricing goes all the way up to CNY7,999 ($1,106) for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant. There is also a Collector’s Edition model (shown below), which costs either CNY8,999 ($1,245) or CNY9,999 ($1,383), depending on the configuration.

The regular model comes in three different colors, each of which also has different build materials. Those variants are Moon Shadow Gray, Zero Degree White, Phantom Night Black.
