The 17th (mostly) annual Google I/O is set to take place next week. It’ll be a two-day event on May 20 and May 21, starting with the opening keynote by Google at 10AM PT on May 20. This keynote will be livestreamed, and so will a few other sessions and keynotes. But the majority of the magic will happen during the opening keynote.
The keynote starts at 10AM PT or 1PM ET, and is expected to last around two hours. Officially, Google has it scheduled to end at 11:45AM PT, however, these things never end on time. So we’d fully expect it to go past Noon.
What to expect at Google I/O 2025?
Now that Google has kind of gotten the Android news out of the way, with the first-ever The Android Show: I/O Edition a week before Google I/O, there’s room for a lot of other announcements from Google.
We are, of course, expecting to hear a lot about AI. Last year, the keynote was 100% about AI. In fact, the only Android mention was about AI generating wallpapers on Android 15. We don’t expect to hear much about Android 16 during the keynote, but we will hear more during sessions during the two-day event.
Gemini
Outside of search and ads, Gemini is probably Google’s most important product right now. So expect to hear plenty about it during the keynote. And this is after hearing quite a bit during The Android Show: I/O Edition. We do expect to see a handful of announcements for Gemini, including more information on its 2.5 Pro update that recently launched. There will also be loads of announcements about other AI products like DeepMind, LearnLM, and Project Astra, which we were able to demo last year.
Android XR
While we do not expect to hear much about Android XR during the keynote, we will definitely hear more during Google I/O. We believe this because the company announced that attendees would get to demo their new XR glasses that haven’t been announced yet, but have been demoed a handful of times already. Google also mentioned during The Android Show: I/O Edition that Samsung’s Android XR headset – Project Moohan – is going to release later this year.
Don’t forget, Google did announce that Gemini is coming to Android XR, too.
Outside of that, we will also likely hear about updates to its other products, like Search, Gmail, Chrome, and much more. It’ll be a jam-packed keynote as it is every year.
