Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd (HMSI), on Thursday, said that it is investing ₹920 crore to construct a fourth production line at its two-wheeler plant at Vithalapur, making its Gujarat plant the largest assembly plant for Honda Motorcycles in the world.
The new line, with an annual production capacity of 6.5 lakh units, will take the total capacity of the Vithalapur plant to 26.1 lakh units. The fourth line is expected to be commissioned in 2027 and will create 1,800 new jobs, the company said. This fourth line will produce 125cc motorcycles.
“Honda has long been investing and expanding its production capacity in India, the world’s largest motorcycle market, to bring joy to its customers. Twenty five years on, with much support, HMSI has reached the milestone of 70 million units of cumulative production. With the additional investment in our fourth plant, Honda will continue to deliver attractive products and services to its customers around the world who have higher expectations and trust in the company, and further solidify its Indian motorcycle business,” Tsutsumu Otani, President & CEO, HMSI.
Operations from 2016
The plant in Gujarat started operation in February 2016 with an annual production capacity of six lakh units. In June the same year, the company expanded the capacity to 12 lakh units after the second line was commissioned. In January 2024, the third line became operational, taking annual production capacity to 19.6 lakh units.
HMSI has four production plants in India with a total annual production of 61.4 lakh units.
