Here’s what we can expect from the new iOS 19 design

Ever since iOS 7, Apple hasn’t really done much for the design of iOS. It is still largely the same, with some refinements here and there. However, Apple will introduce a brand new design in iOS 19, and thanks to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, here’s what we can expect.

A new and consistent design

According to Gurman, iOS 19 will be the biggest platform redesign in years. During a live Q&A session, Gurman revealed that one of the changes we can expect from the new iOS 19 design is consistency. Apple has a very tight-knit ecosystem across its products. However, they are also quite different.

To make its software more cohesive, the main redesign is to introduce consistency across the board. “Things like hamburger menus and menu buttons, and the menu bar, and buttons for closing applications, the way the dock looks and acts. There are a lot of differences across the operating system. So it’s about adding consistency there,” says Gurman.

He also notes that we can expect a visual refresh to icons and animations. “It’s about adding glassy effects across the user interface. It’s about rejiggering some applications for a new generation of users to better understand, to make it seem more unified between the individual and the devices.”

No major AI features

That said, a redesign of iOS 19 is the focus here. Many are hoping that Apple will introduce brand new Apple Intelligence features. However, as per the previous rumors, that will not be the case. Instead, when it comes to AI, Apple will focus more on integrating Apple Intelligence into native apps rather than introducing brand new features.

We reckon that’s a smart move. Despite Apple’s best intentions, Apple Intelligence has received poor reception. Compared to Galaxy AI and Gemini, Apple Intelligence is a joke. It is reminiscent of Apple’s attempts with Siri, which, until today, can’t even surface the most basic of queries.

Gurman says iOS 19’s changes might take some getting used to, but he believes users will eventually warm up to them. Apple will reveal more at WWDC in June, giving us a clearer picture of what’s coming.
