The Karnataka High Court has refused to quash a case against former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa pertaining to the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl. However, it directed the special court not to insist on the appearance of the Bharatiya Janata Party leader during the trial unless “his presence is essential”.

It also clarified that he is free to seek discharge before the trial court.

The case against Yediyurappa was registered on March 14, 2024, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for allegedly assaulting a minor girl, who is a rape survivor in a separate case from 2015. The 82-year-old leader is accused of having assaulted the girl on February 2, 2024, when she and her mother met him to seek help in the 2015 rape case. Read on.


The Supreme Court has refused to hear the Tamil Nadu government’s plea against Karnataka’s plan to construct the Mekedatu dam on the Cauvery river. The bench dismissed the petition as “premature”.

It pointed out that Karnataka’s detailed project report was still under consideration by experts in the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee. This process was taking place only after considering Tamil Nadu’s objections, said the bench. Read on.


Air pollution in Delhi remained in the “severe” category with an air quality index of 406, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board. As of 5.06 pm, the air quality was “severe” or worse in 28 out of 39 monitoring stations in the capital.

At the Wazirpur and Bawana monitoring stations, pollution had even crossed the “severe plus” threshold. Read on.


The Turkish government has denied Indian media reports claiming that it was “providing logistical, diplomatic and financial help” to terrorist groups around the world. Ankara alleged that the reports were part of a “malicious disinformation campaign”.

The reports had alleged that persons suspected to be involved in the explosion near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi on November 10, which left at least eight persons dead, had travelled to Türkiye, where their handlers were allegedly based.

Türkiye’s Centre for Countering Disinformation has stated that such reports were part of a campaign aimed at damaging bilateral relations between Ankara and New Delhi. Read on.
