Punjabi aa gaye, oye!

Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, now has a female lead. We can confirm that Punjabi actor Sonam Bajwa has joined the cast as a strong-headed Punjabi girl, paired opposite Diljit, with a notable emotional arc. The film’s shoot is in full swing, with Diljit’s parts being shot in Pune (Reporting to duty, sir, May 31), and Sonam is expected to join him soon. The two of them have starred together in popular Punjabi films like Sardaarji franchise, National Award-winning Punjab 1984 (2014), and Honsla Rakh (2021), among others. The makers aim to wrap up the project by mid-August, and plan to release it on Republic Day next year. Around 60 per cent of the film is already shot. The makers are expected to make an official announcement on the next female lead soon.

Working round the clock

Apara Mehta recently recalled her experience shooting for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Devdas (2002) simultaneously. She shared how Sanjay Leela Bhansali called her, offering a small role in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, which she grabbed as it was her dream to work with the director. Apara said that she used to work round the clock for 17 days, managing shoots for both projects. She described it as an intense experience, saying she felt like “there was nothing beyond it but death,” and was perpetually sleep deprived. She played the role of Badi Aapa in the film, and on the other hand, she played Savita Virani, the matriarch in Ektaa Kapoor’s popular TV show.

Aleksandar Ilić showered Disha Patani with love on her 33rd birthday, on Friday. Sharing a romantic photo carousel on social media, she wrote, “Happy birthday my chikirki.” The post features adorable moments from their apparent relationship, showcasing their chemistry and bond. Fans went wild, commenting, “This is the cutest birthday post ever.” The photos depict cosy dinners, gym sessions, and relaxed moments at home, fuelling speculation about their rumoured romance. Disha has been tight-lipped about her personal life since her split from Tiger Shroff, but her appearances with Aleksandar have sparked ample curiosity. A few months ago, Aleksandar, a mixed martial arts fighter, also got her face tattooed on his arm.

Rana Dagubatti on transplant

Actor Rana Daggubati recently joked about his health issues, saying that he’s like the Terminator due to his multiple transplants. In a podcast with Bollywood Bubble, Rana discussed the challenges of performing action sequences with limited vision in one eye. He said, “If I don’t have my lenses on and there’s too much dust, it gets a bit messy.” He also revealed that he has been blind in his right eye since a young age and has a corneal transplant in his left eye. Earlier he had reportedly shared that he had included high blood pressure and calcification in the heart, which had led to the need for a kidney transplant too. On the work front, he’ll next be seen in Vettaiyan.

Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph

Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph are set to reunite for Drishyam 3, the third instalment of Drishyam films. Reports suggest that the filming is likely to begin in September. The production was initially uncertain, but the duo may postpone their project Ram to prioritise Drishyam 3. Although details are scarce, an official confirmation is awaited. The Drishyam franchise, which began in 2013, follows Georgekutty, who devises long thought-out plans to safeguard his family after a murder.  The Hindi remakes of the film, starring Ajay Devgn, have also been box office hits. While the Mohanlal starrer will also release in Hindi, there was uncertainty whether Ajay will be making Drishyam 3 in Hindi, however, it is now confirmed that the film’s production will begin in August with Tabu. 

Reality check ka panga

mid-day reported that actor Avika Gor got engaged to her long-time boyfriend Milind Chandwani, and the pictures of their special moment has gone viral on social media (No more a Balika Vadhu, June 12). Soon after the announcement, there came a quick update on their next move — the couple is set to appear together on Colors TV’s Pati, Patni Aur Panga, a reality show where popular television couples will talk about their love and relationships. They shot for the promo in Mumbai on Friday. According to reports, Hina Khan and Rocky Jaiswal, Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee, Ankita Lokhande and Vicky Jain, and Karan Kundrra and Tejasswi Prakash, among others, will be participating in the show.
