‘Haq ‘Baramulla ‘Frankenstein ‘Maharani season 4


November 7 is one of the busiest Fridays in recent weeks, with a bunch of films and shows competing for attention. All release dates of new releases are subject to change.

In other news: Yash Raj Films has migrated much of its catalogue to Netflix. The list includes several Shah Rukh Khan starrers, such as Chak De! India, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Darr, Dil To Pahal Hai and Fan. A Shah Rukh revival is also on in cinemas, bringing back some of his most-loved films, including Dil Se, Kabhi Kaan Kabhi Naa and Main Hoon Na.

Among the recent releases that have landed on streaming platforms are Bad Girl (November 4, JioHotstar), Kiss (November 7, ZEE5) and The Fantastic 4: First Steps (November 4, JioHotstar). Also out are Kantara: Chapter 1 (on Prime Video) and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (JioHotstar).

Nanda Kishore’s fantasy action film stars Mohanlal in a dual role. The synopsis: “A diamond magnate faces a reckoning when his son’s journey to their ancestral village awakens memories of a violent past that refuse to stay buried.”

The cast includes Neha Saxena, Samarjit Lankesh, Ragini Dwivedi, Ajay and Ali.

Suparn S Verma’s legal drama is a fictionalised version of the controversial Shah Bano case from the 1980s, in which the Supreme Court granted maintenance to a divorced Muslim woman. Adapted from Jigna Vora’s Bano: Bharat Ki Beti, the movie stars Yami Gautam Dhar, Emraan Hashmi, Danish Husain and Sheeba Chadha.

Teen Paayancha Ghoda

November 7, Marathi, in cinemas

Noopur Bora’s film from 2022 is finally getting a release. Teen Paayanchan Ghoda (Three-legged Horse) is set in 2003 and revolves around the coming-of-age experience of three teenagers. The cast includes Ria Nalavade, Kunal Shukla, Avinash Londhe, Devika Daftardar and Gajanan Paranjape.

November 7, English, in cinemas

James Vanderbilt directs the latest film on the Nuremberg trials that convicted Nazi officers for their role in the Holocaust. The synopsis: “A young American soldier and a German psychologist must race against time to help an American psychiatrist uncover the truth behind a high-ranking Nazi officer before the Nuremberg trials begin.”

The cast includes Russell Crowe, Rami Malek and Michael Shannon.

Frankenstein

November 7, English, on Netflix

Guillermo del Toro adapts the classic Mary Shelley novel Frankenstein, in which the titular scientist creates a man out of assembled body parts but then rejects his creation. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz.

Predator: Badlands

In the ninth chapter in the long-running futuristic franchise, an outcast Predator teams up with the android Thia to take on the apex Predator. Dan Trachtenberg directs Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi.

Rashmika Mandanna, one of cinema’s busiest heroines, stars alongside Dheekshith Shetty in Rahul Ravindran’s film about a couple in a toxic relationship.

Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal direct Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha in a fantasy film about treasure guarded by a fierce female spirit.

Article 370 director Aditya Jambhale returns to the Valley for a supernatural thriller. The film stars Manav Kaul and Bhasha Sumbli in key roles.

The synopsis: “When a young boy mysteriously disappears, it sets off a chain of events that unravel unsettling truths and shake the town to its core. Into this charged atmosphere enters DSP Ridwaan Sayyed, a recently transferred Kashmiri Police officer tasked with investigating a case of missing children. As he and his family move into a derelict house in town, he feels the weight of his past pressing down on him.”

Maharani season 4

November 7, Hindi, on Sony LIV

Subhash Kapoor’s political drama, about accidental Bihari politician Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi), sets its sights higher. Having tried out chief ministership, Rani Bharti eyes a bigger role.

The cast includes Amit Sial, Shweta Basu Prasad, Vipin Sharma, Vineet Kumar, Shardul Bharadwaj, Kani Kusruti and Pramod Pathak.

Thode Door Thode Paas

November 7, Hindi, on ZEE5

This series examines the impact of digital detox on a family. Pankaj Kapur’s character tells his clan that if they stay away from digital devices for six months, they will earn a crore each. The cast includes Mona Singh, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Ayesha Kaduskar.

Pluribus

November 7, English, on Apple TV+

Vince Gilligan, the writer and director of Breaking Bad and co-creator of Better Call Saul, is behind Pluribus. The nine-episode drama is a “genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness”, according to a press note.

The cast include Rhea Seehorn in the lead role, Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte. The first two episodes will be premiered on November 7, followed by new episodes every Friday until December 26.

The Hack

November 7, English, on Lionsgate Play

One of the British media’s biggest scandals is the basis of The Hack. The show revisits the tapping of celebrities’ phones by News of the World, the newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch.

David Tenannt plays Nick Davies, who uncovered the crime, Steve Pemberton plays Murdoch, and Toby Jones is the Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger. The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Rose Leslie and Dougray Scott.

November 7, Korean, on Netflix

This Korean series follows “two women who, trapped in a brutal reality where survival demands either killing or being killed, choose to kill, but soon find themselves caught in a twist of fate they never saw coming”. Lee Jeong-lim’s series, based on Hideo Okuda’s novel Naomi & Kanako, stars Jeogn So-nee, Lee You-mi, Jang Seung-jo and Lee Mu-saeng.
