The Gujarat High Court on Monday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Chaitar Vasava, who has been in jail since July in an alleged attempt to murder case, on the condition that he cannot enter the Dediapada taluka in the Narmada district for a year, PTI reported.
Justice MR Mengdey allowed the bail plea filed by the Dediapada MLA, who was arrested for allegedly attacking Bharatiya Janata Party leader and taluka president Sanjay Vasava during an official meeting in his constituency on July 5.
According to the first information report registered at Dediapada police station, the AAP MLA allegedly abused the woman president of the Sagbara taluka panchayat after his nominee was overlooked for a local coordination committee.
When Sanjay Vasava intervened, the MLA reportedly threw a mobile phone at him, injuring his head.
He also allegedly attempted to hit Sanjay Vasava with a glass but was reportedly stopped by police personnel present at the scene.
Chaitar Vasava was booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to attempt to murder, insulting the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult and damage to property.
He had approached the High Court after a sessions court in Rajpipla rejected his bail application. Earlier this month, he was granted a three-day temporary bail to attend the state Assembly’s monsoon session.
