Cricket for a cause
To keep alive memory of late Ashok Bhatt, one of the stalwart BJP politicians from Ahmedabad, his family has organised a cricket tournament in Maninagar that started on Sunday. Bhatt’s grandson and one of the organisers of the event, Jaival, said, “Basically, it is the idea of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep the memory of Ashokbhai alive, specially in the young generation. This cricket tournament is part of an effort in that direction. We are also organising various other events like chess tournament and mass marriage.” Gujarat BJP chief and Union minister C R Paatil on Tuesday wrote on X that PM Modi has sent a message. Jaival said that PM Modi wanted to join the inaugural event through video conference, but due to the present situation in the country (following the Pahalgam attack) he could not, and instead sent a message. Bhatt was a veteran BJP leader from Khadia area of old Ahmedabad city who went on to become a minister in BJP governments and also held the position of the Gujarat Assembly Speaker.
