The Gujarat Power Engineering and Research Institute (GPERI) located in Mehsana district’s Mevad village will now be known by a new name — Gujarat Technological University — Institute of Technology and Research (GTU-ITR), from May 1. The institute which changed hands from Gujarat Power Corporation to Gujarat Technological University in 2020, authorities shared, was still under the impression of being managed by the former. The GTU brand was not reflected and people were still under the impression that it is not good, a senior official stated. To change that perception, GTU assured that the “brand” is in the new name. After getting approval from its Board of Governors, GTU approved the same from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) before announcing the new name at a cultural event on the campus on Thursday.
