Guinean woman held at Mumbai airport with cocaine worth over Rs 21 crore | Mumbai News

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a Guinean woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai after seizing over 2 kg of cocaine worth over Rs 21 crore from her, officials said Tuesday.

DRI officials said their team intercepted the woman passenger who arrived from Nairobi in Kenya early Tuesday based on specific intelligence. The officials said they examined her checked-in luggage and found three packets of white powder concealed inside. Believing the powder was a narcotic substance, it was tested using a field test kit, and the result was positive for cocaine.

“The total weight of the seized drug is 2,178 grams. The international market value of the cocaine is estimated at Rs 21.78 crore,” said an official.

The woman was subsequently arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. DRI officials are probing whether she is part of a major syndicate or she was just used to transport the narcotic substance in return for a high commission.
