GT vs LSG: Arshad Khan slips twice on run-up, but avoids major injury

Gujarat Titans pacer Arshad Khan on Thursday experienced a concerning sequence of events during their IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad after he slipped twice in his opening over.

The troubling episode began early in the innings, with Arshad tasked with opening the bowling against LSG’s top-order duo, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. On his very first delivery, disaster struck. Arshad lost his footing during the delivery stride, with his back foot failing to plant correctly.

The misstep caused him to tumble awkwardly, crashing onto his left knee before falling heavily on his shoulder. Despite the jarring fall, Arshad regained his composure and completed the over.

However, the ordeal wasn’t over yet. On the fifth ball of the same over, Arshad once again lost balance on his run-up, slipping on his landing area and hitting the ground hard, this time, his shoulder bore the brunt of the impact. The Gujarat Titans’ medical staff responded swiftly on both occasions, rushing onto the field to check on the young pacer.

In response to the incidents, the ground staff took immediate action, treating the bowler’s landing zone with a generous application of sawdust to improve traction. The measures thankfully seemed effective as no further slippages were reported for the rest of the innings.

Despite the early setbacks, Arshad showed resilience by returning to bowl later in the match. He ended his spell with figures of three overs for 36 runs and claimed a wicket, one of only two dismissals managed by the Titans` bowlers in a forgettable outing. Gujarat’s bowling unit struggled collectively, as Lucknow Super Giants posted a daunting total of 235 for 2 in their 20 overs.

Mitchell Marsh led the charge with a spectacular innings, notching up his maiden IPL century. The Australian all-rounder’s explosive knock included 10 fours and 8 sixes, and he shared a 121-run stand with Nicholas Pooran. The West Indian batter complemented Marsh’s brilliance with a blistering 56* off just 27 deliveries, bringing up his fifth half-century of the season. Earlier in the innings, Marsh had also forged a 91-run partnership with Aiden Markram, laying the platform for LSG’s commanding total.
