Google Gemini’s AI video generation now rolling out

Summary: Gemini is getting even more powerful thanks to AI video generation capabilities powered by Google’s Veo 2 text-to-video AI model. The feature will be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers. Additionally, the experimental Whisk tool is available to more users globally, enabling you to animate images.

Google has been working for a long time to establish Gemini, its AI platform, among the industry’s leading platforms. The company’s chatbot and models have been steadily improving, and now they’re getting a new enhancement. Starting today, Gemini users will be able to generate videos using text prompts. However, the feature requires a paid subscription. Whisk is also reaching more people.

Gemini AI getting Veo 2-powered video generation capabilities

Google announced two major developments today regarding its generative AI tools. First is the integration of Gemini with Veo 2, the company’s latest text-to-video model. Gemini Advanced tier subscribers can begin generating clips of up to eight seconds at 720p resolution using simple natural language prompts. Google says the more detailed the prompt, the better the result. The output will be an MP4 file with a 16:9 landscape aspect ratio.

The Mountain View giant is very proud of Veo 2’s results. The company states that the model is “designed to produce high-resolution, detailed videos with cinematic realism.” “By better understanding real-world physics and human motion, it delivers fluid character movement, lifelike scenes, and finer visual details across diverse subjects and styles,” the blog post adds.

Gemini Advanced users will be able to find Veo 2 from Gemini’s model dropdown menu. There’s a “Share” button available after each creation that allows you to quickly upload them to platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. AI-powered video generation will be available from the Gemini app and website alike.

Whisk reaching Google One AI Premium globally subscribers

Google is also expanding the availability of Whisk, its Labs experiment. Originally announced in December 2024, Whisk allows users to generate videos from images. Users can also use text prompts, but the focus in Whisk is on images. You can use it to create animations from your favorite images, for example. The feature’s capabilities are also powered by Google’s latest Veo 2 AI video model.

Whisk is available for Google One AI Premium subscribers from the Labs website.
