Google Fixed a Bug That Made You the Most Hated One in Checkout Lines

Using tap-to-pay for in-store transactions is all about making life easier. It’s much quicker to do so than using your credit card. Well, Google patched a Google Wallet issue that slowed things down. The company fixed the issue that required multiple authentications just to use Google Wallet.

Recently, users started reporting an issue that made using tap to pay with your smartwatch more trouble than it was worth. Normally, when you use tap-to-pay during an in-store purchase with your unlocked smartwatch on your wrist, you won’t need to authenticate. This way, to pay, you simply have to lay your wrist on the reader and go about your day.

It’s certainly much more streamlined than using a credit card or even using your phone. However, a bug in the Google Wallet app required that the user authenticate on their watch before every single transaction. That can be quite frustrating, especially if you wind up holding up a long line of people trying to check out.

Google fixed the Google Wallet issue that required multiple authentications

Many people who experienced this issue were concerned that it was an intentional change. Google acknowledged this issue on May 20th, and it quickly began working on a fix. At the time of writing this, Google has since delivered two updates to the app.

So, Google Wallet no longer requires multiple authentications on Wear OS. It takes a while for companies to fix small issues sometimes, but Google acted very quickly this time around. Be sure to update your Google Wallet app if you haven’t yet.

If you’re curious about using Tap to Pay with your smartwatch, a great option to consider is the Pixel Watch 3. This is the latest smartwatch from the company, and it improves over its predecessor in several ways. It starts at $349.99, so if you are interested, you can pick one up.
