Google could finally level up the Google Drive app with Gemini

New features sometimes land on the web version of Google’s services before they land on the mobile version. People who typically use Google Drive on the web have been able to use some robust AI features through Gemini. Well, if you use the Google Drive app, you might see some Gemini features soon.

While it’s highly likely that Google will release these features, we should still state that there’s no 100% guarantee. This information was discovered through an APK deep dive in the Google Drive app (version 2.25.170.0). As such, anything could change. Google put code pointing to these features in the most recent version of the app. However, the company could make changes or pull the features altogether.

The Google Drive app might gain some Gemini features

We should pretty much know what types of features to expect if they land on the app. Gemini could be an AI agent with the ability to make using the app easier. The upcoming features in the app could include the ability to summarize files in your drive. From the screenshot, it looks like you’ll place an “@” symbol right before the name of a file and ask Gemini to summarize it. This could also apply to summarizing folders.

You will also be able to ask general questions if you need help using the Google Drive platform. For example, we see in a screenshot the user asking Gemini how to find a specific file in their drive. That can be super useful for people who don’t use Google Drive often.

We also see that you can still ask Gemini to give you information that doesn’t pertain to Google Drive. In the last screenshot, we see the user asking Gemini about the weather in a certain area using web results. Aside from those, Gemini may also create files, folders, and images.

While Google didn’t officially announce this, it’s common sense that the company would push Gemini into the Google Drive app. We just don’t know when. Also, there’s a chance that not all of the features will launch at the same time.
