GHMC to Begin Fixing 6,000 Potholes Across Hyderabad from July 1

In a long-awaited move to improve road safety and commuter experience, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced plans to repair over 5,780 potholes identified across the city. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has directed officials to begin pothole filling and road restoration works starting July 1, just in time to tackle the impact of monsoon rains.

The potholes, largely attributed to the substandard quality of raw materials used in previous road construction, have become a major concern for citizens. Many residents have raised complaints about deteriorating road conditions, which worsen significantly during the rainy season.

“Poorly lit streets and unending potholes are a nightmare for daily commuters,” said a Gachibowli resident who endures long traffic delays daily. “Traffic jams often get so bad that I see commuters intentionally driving through the same potholes others try to avoid,” the resident added, echoing a common frustration among Hyderabad’s vehicle users.

Alongside the pothole repairs, Commissioner Karnan also instructed officials to proactively identify and resolve road-related issues that typically emerge during the monsoon season, including waterlogging, damaged drains, and weak road shoulders.

The GHMC’s road maintenance initiative is expected to not only ease traffic congestion but also reduce the risk of accidents during the wet months. Residents are hopeful that this step will mark the beginning of a more comprehensive, long-term plan to enhance urban infrastructure across the city.
