We have good news for Samsung Galaxy fans. It looks like the wait for the latest flavor of One UI will be shorter than you might think. Google recently hinted that the stable Android 16 update will be available in June. Eligible Galaxy devices are also expected to start receiving the next-gen One UI starting this summer. The list of eligible phones to get One UI 8 includes the classic Galaxy S22 series.
Geekbench confirms Samsung is testing One UI 8 on the Galaxy S22 Ultra
Speaking of the Galaxy S22 series, the Ultra variant was spotted on Geekbench running the Android 16-based One UI 8 update. The screenshot shared by Tarun Vats on X/Twitter shows that the device pulled in some respectable scores—1581 in single-core and 3680 in multi-core testing. The firmware in question carries the build number S908USQU8GYCB.
That said, if you have high expectations for a massive overhaul, you might want to calm them down a bit. Samsung only just did so in One UI 7, so a similar move isn’t expected for a few years. The SamMobile team has obtained access to the One UI 8 firmware for models like the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. This revealed that One UI 8 is largely built on the foundation of One UI 7. In other words, the update will likely focus on polishing the user interface and introducing a handful of new features. Think of it as a refined and enhanced experience rather than a complete reinvention.
We’ll probably see the bigger, more eye-catching features arrive with One UI 8.5 in 2026. This version in particular will arrive alongside the Galaxy S26 series.
So, what does this mean for you? If you’re rocking a compatible Galaxy device, you can likely look forward to a smoother, more polished user experience arriving this summer with One UI 8. While it might not be a complete revolution, it’s always great to see Samsung pushing updates quickly.
