Delhi News Live Updates: United States Vice President J D Vance arrived in Delhi this morning for a four-day visit to India during which he is expected to hold a meeting over a potential India-US trade deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He landed in the Capital’s Palam airbase with his Indian-origin wife Usha Vance and three children. Vance’s first official visit to India comes weeks after US President Donald Trump imposed and then paused a sweeping tariff regime against around 60 countries, including India.

What’s on the V-P’s agenda?: After landing in India, Vance and his family are expected to visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in the Capital, and may visit a shopping complex selling traditional hand-crafted goods. Later in the evening, at 6:30 pm, Vance will meet Modi at the PM’s 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence for official talks. In addition to their stay in New Delhi, the Second family of the US will travel to Jaipur later in the night. In Jaipur, Vance will tour the Amer Fort. He will receive a traditional welcome, and the procession will include two elephants named Chanda and Pushpa, at the palace’s Surajpol Gate, officials said. They will also visit the Rajasthan International Centre, where Vance is scheduled to address a gathering on the broader aspects of India-US relations, particularly in the context of the Trump administration.

Vance’s Agra visit: After his visit to Jaipur, Vance along with his family is likely to visit Agra, where they will explore the Taj Mahal. “It will begin with a ceremonial welcome, likely by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” said an official, requesting anonymity. “It is not confirmed but we are in talks with the state government and Ministry of External Affairs,” the official added. For India, the timing of Vance’s visit could not be more significant, as both countries are looking to counter China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region. India’s participation in the Quad — a strategic alliance with the US, Japan, and Australia — has become central to maintaining balance in the region.
