Hyderabad, July 2: Four individuals were arrested in Medchal on Wednesday for possessing hash oil and ganja during a routine vehicle checking operation conducted by the excise police. The arrests were made as part of a special drive to monitor narcotics trafficking in the region.
The accused have been identified as Janam Mahesh, Narender, Kristo Philip, and Maria Shaji George. Authorities seized 225 grams of hash oil, 475 grams of dry ganja, and four mobile phones from their possession.
All four have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The arrests took place during a routine check at Medchal, where officers stopped vehicles to prevent illegal transportation of drugs during ongoing surveillance operations.
Excise officials said a deeper probe is underway to trace the origin of the contraband and identify other individuals possibly linked to the drug network. “We suspect a wider distribution ring and anticipate more arrests in the coming days,” an official added.
The bust is part of the Telangana Excise Department’s intensified crackdown on narcotic distribution chains operating in and around Hyderabad.
