Reports state that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has asked the makers of Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par to include a quote from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the opening disclaimer. This directive was part of several changes requested by the CBFC for the film to receive its U/A certification.
The issue has assumed controversial overtones ahead of the movie’s June 20th release. “It is not Freedom of Speech if artists are forced to quote the PM or a CM. If they do it voluntarily, that’s a different issue. In Hollywood, this kind of state-led diktats are virtually non-existent. The CBFC seems to have acted under the influence of the PMO,” a social media user alleged.
Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to open to pretty ordinary openings at the box office this Friday. The film’s trailer has largely been a flop. Despite Aamir Khan’s passionate promotions, the audience are not enthused. The sports comedy drama, a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, is directed by RS Prasanna.
