Flip phones still evoke a fair bit of warm nostalgia but have evolved to offer a lot more than just that. The Moto Razr 60 Ultra is the brand’s latest bet, and thankfully, it doesn’t just hinge on style. With Pantone-approved finishes, a powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite under the hood, and one of the smartest cover displays that you can use. I’ve been using the flip phone for about two weeks and here’s how it fares.

Design

Moto has taken its design characteristics up one notch with the Pantone Mountrail trail variant, which sports a wood-grain style finish at the rear and rose gold trim around the edges of the smartphone. There are also the Pantone Scarab (a deep emerald green with a suede-like finish) and Pantone Rio Red colour variants, which look great! At 199 grams, the smartphone is lightweight enough and looks super classy. Apart from the usual power and volume rocker buttons (which also doubles up as a fingerprint reader), there’s a dedicated ‘Moto AI’ button that rests by itself on the left side of the device. A super handy button, we’ll get into its features a little further in this review.

Display & Multimedia

The cover display on the Moto Razr 60 Ultra is a 4-inch pOLED display with up to 165 Hz refresh rate for compatible games, and 3,000 nits of peak brightness. It is protected by Corning Gorilla-Glass Ceramic, protecting the screen from potential scratches and also toning down reflections a bit.

The main, bigger AMOLED display spans 6.96 inches, and the smartphone has a tall profile owing to its flip form factor. This display also supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, with 4,500 nits peak brightness. On the main display, the horizontal crease is all but invisible. I realised I didn’t even notice it or think about it till I got down to writing this review.

Camera

The Moto Razr 60 Ultra includes a two-camera setup on the primary. There’s a 50 MP main camera with OIS, along with a 50 MP ultrawide lens. There’s also a 50 MP selfie camera under the main display. Photos are fairly sharp with rich, saturated colours on this device. Warm tones are amped up just a bit, but not to a level where it distorts or takes away from the original charm of the subject of capture. The flip-form factor helps record videos in camcorder mode quite easily, making it a fun companion while travelling. I got to capture a bunch of fire performers on the beach while on holiday, and the device did a really good job of capturing the theatrics on video, despite a bit of noise, considering it was captured at nighttime.

Performance & utility

Under the hood is the Snapdragon 8 Elite and a single variant of 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. Moto has said the smartphone will get three years of OS updates and four years of security updates. It runs on Android 15 out of the box with Moto’s own Hello UI layered on top. Overall, the UI is immensely personalisable, with lots of display customisations for the cover screen as well. The cover display remains one of the most feature-packed ones on a flip phone, with a ton of games too. The on-device AI button makes information and help more accessible. For example, when I am looking at old photos of my dog, I trigger the AI button. This offers me options such as ‘explore with Perplexity’, ‘remember this’, ‘take notes’, and more specialised options such as “save dog walk memory” and “generate dog walk image”. A similar set of prompts pop up across contexts, such as emails, calendars, maps, and flight tickets, which may or may not be useful depending on the context. For example, while looking at a trip itinerary, I may not have much use for “creating a digital image”. Google Gemini finds a place for itself onboard as well, as an independent app.

Battery

The Moto Razr 60 Ultra packs in a 4,700mAh battery, which might not be the largest on paper. However, it delivers some of the most impressive usage times I’ve seen on a smartphone. On long days of use while on holiday, with the hotspot on, taking multiple photos and videos, using Google Maps for navigation for close to hours, the smartphone still had more 50-60 per cent battery life at the end of the day.

The smartphone also charges fully within an hour, which means a quick plug-in around the time you’re getting ready and grabbing breakfast in the morning should do the job.

Verdict

There’s a lot to love about the Moto Razr 60 Ultra. To begin with, it’s beautifully designed, now has a dedicated AI button and associated Moto AI features, amazing battery life, vivid display and a cover display with more functionality than most foldables. The price tag might punch someone looking to get their first-ever flip phone, especially considering it doesn’t include a telephoto lens. But for most users looking to make a style statement without compromising on substance, the Razr 60 Ultra is easily one of the most well-rounded foldables you can buy in India today.
