Empuraan producer Gokulam Gopalan’s premises raided by ED in Chennai | India News

The Enforcement Directorate Friday raided the premises of Gokulam Gopalan, one of the producers of the Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan. The development comes against the backdrop of right-wing groups protesting against the Malayalam film for “depicting Gujarat violence (2002 riots) to vilify Hindus”.

ED officials did not reveal the details of the raid, which is underway at Gopalan’s office in Chennai. Sree Gokulam Chits and Finance is a leading firm under Gopalan, who has a stake in the hospitality, media, health, education, transport and logistics sectors.

After the Mohanlal-starrer film Empuraan triggered outrage from the right-wing in Kerala, including criticism from the RSS, Gopalan was first to come out to say that changes would be made in the film to remove scenes or dialogues that could hurt anyone.

“The film was not intended to hurt anyone. If any dialogue or scene in the film hurt anyone, I told Prithviraj Sukumaram to make the necessary changes. Certain words have already been muted. There is a protest against certain things in the film. I have asked the director to make the necessary changes. We are not involved in any politics,” Gopalan had told the media.
