EKA Mobility, KPIT, and BPCL Deploy Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus at Cochin Airport

EKA Mobility, in collaboration with KPIT Technologies and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has deployed a 9-meter hydrogen fuel cell bus at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) in Kochi. This initiative aims to support Kerala’s transition towards sustainable mobility by introducing hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.

The bus, designed to accommodate more than 30 passengers, will be part of a three-year Proof of Concept (PoC) project at CIAL. It was recently showcased at the Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit held in Kochi on March 12 and 13.

As part of the project, EKA Mobility integrated KPIT Technologies’ hydrogen fuel cell technology into its 9-meter electric bus, while BPCL set up the hydrogen generation, dispensing, and refueling infrastructure in Kochi. The collaboration focuses on developing both the vehicle and the necessary hydrogen ecosystem to facilitate the wider adoption of green hydrogen in the state.

The initiative is expected to advance the adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in India, drive investment in green hydrogen infrastructure, and support policy development for future deployments. By integrating clean energy solutions, the project contributes to Kerala’s sustainable mobility efforts and aligns with India’s broader net-zero objectives.

EKA Mobility is an electric vehicle (EV) and clean mobility solutions provider in India, focusing on the development and deployment of electric and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. The company is backed by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands), with operations aimed at advancing sustainable transportation in the country.

EKA Mobility primarily designs and manufactures electric buses and commercial vehicles, catering to public and private transport sectors. The company emphasizes energy-efficient solutions while working on expanding the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. It has introduced electric buses for urban transport and, more recently, has collaborated on hydrogen fuel cell technology for further advancements in clean mobility.

In addition to vehicle manufacturing, EKA Mobility has been involved in setting up infrastructure for sustainable mobility solutions. The company works with industry partners and government bodies to facilitate the deployment of charging stations and hydrogen refueling facilities, contributing to the broader clean energy ecosystem in India.
