528 Held for Drunk Driving in Cyberabad; RC Puram Tops with 94 Arrests

Drunk Driving in Cyberabad

Hyderabad, July 13: In a massive crackdown against drunk driving, the Cyberabad Traffic Police arrested 528 individuals over the weekend across various traffic divisions. Leading the list was RC Puram traffic police station with a staggering 94 arrests, followed by Miyapur with 65 and Gachibowli with 48.

The drive led to the seizure of 391 two-wheelers, 22 three-wheelers, 113 four-wheelers, and 2 heavy vehicles. Police officials noted that the special enforcement operation was aimed at curbing reckless driving and ensuring road safety.

Young Adults Among the Majority of Offenders

Age-wise data revealed that:

  • 9 offenders were aged 18–20 years

  • 218 were between 21–30 years

  • 175 were in the 31–40 age group

  • 98 were 41–50

  • 24 aged 51–60

  • 4 were 61 years and above

The authorities also revealed the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels among the arrested:

  • 230 tested between 51–100 BAC

  • 119 were in the 101–150 range

  • 42 had levels between 151–200

  • 27 were in the 201–300 BAC range

  • 17 tested above 301 BAC, which is over ten times the legal limit

The permissible alcohol limit for drivers is 30 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Police Warn of Strict Legal Action

Cyberabad police have warned that any individual found drunk driving and causing fatal accidents will be prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

“This section carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine. There will be zero tolerance for negligence that endangers public life,” a senior official said.

Public Urged to Avoid Drunk Driving

Traffic authorities have urged citizens to act responsibly and avoid drunk driving, especially as city roads get increasingly congested and accident-prone. Designated drivers, public transport, and cab services were suggested as alternatives for those under the influence.

Opinion

The recent drunk driving crackdown in Cyberabad, resulting in 528 arrests in a single weekend, reflects both an alarming public safety issue and a commendable step by the police toward accountability. While RC Puram topping the chart with 94 cases is a wake-up call, the broader data—covering age groups from teenagers to senior citizens—highlights a cultural negligence toward responsible driving.

Crime Today News believes enforcement alone is not enough. There needs to be a parallel push for awareness, education, and preventive action. Drunk driving is not just a legal offense—it is a threat to innocent lives. With the new provisions under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which could mean up to 10 years of imprisonment, it’s time the public realized the irreversible cost of one careless decision behind the wheel.

We urge citizens to treat this not as a fear of punishment, but as a commitment to safety, responsibility, and respect for life on the road.
