The Kandla port which achieved a record 150 metric tonnes of cargo volumes during 2024-25 is looking to improve its efficiency.
Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) on Saturday said it has set itself an ambitious target of providing a “Berthing on Arrival” facility to vessels that call at the Kandla port in Gujarat.
“As we step into the new fiscal, Deendayal Port Authority has set its sights on a transformative goal of System Improvement, with a strategic focus on enhancing operational efficiency across the board. At the heart of this initiative is the ambitious target of achieving ‘Berthing on Arrival’, ensuring that vessels face no waiting time upon reaching the port. This seamless berthing strategy is expected to significantly boost productivity, reduce vessel turnaround time and accelerate cargoevacuation processes,” DPA stated in a statement here.
businessline has already reported that in 2023-24, the turnaround time for vessels at Kandla port was 54.24 hours, while the lowest turnaround time among major ports was recorded at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra which had a turnaround time of 26 hours. The Kandla port which achieved a record 150 metric tonnes of cargo volumes during 2024-25 is looking to improve its efficiency. “With these efforts, DPA is not just modernising its systems, but also aligning with the vision of a future-ready maritime India,” it added.
DPA has already announced ₹57,000 crore worth of future investments at Kandla, which includes a ₹30,000-crore shipbuilding facility and a ₹27,000-crore new cargo terminal outside Kandla Creek which will add 135 million tonnes per annum to Kandla Port’s capacity.
