Kingston, touted to be India’s first sea-based adventure fantasy actioner, was released in theatres this Friday. In both Tamil and Telugu, it had poor openings.
As per the buzz in the town, even though Kingston was made on a modest budget, the quantum of losses could be high for actor-producer GV Prakash Kumar. Considering that the openings are poor and the ‘word of mouth’ effect is absent even in Tamil, Kingston could end up being a loss project.
Kingston marks GV Prakash’s debut as a producer. The composer of Lucky Baskhar and Amaran had placed big bets on turning Kingston into a franchise. It is to support his vision that Zee Studios came on board to produce the film alongside him. With the first part falling flat on its face, will the movie have another three parts? Highly doubtful.
At the film’s pre-release event in Telugu, the speakers reiterated that Kingston is a visual treat for its decent budget. GV Prakash Kumar has been a prominent Tier-2 actor in Kollywood.
