DGCA conducts safety inspections of Turkish Airlines flight

DGCA conducts safety inspections of Turkish Airlines flight

India’s civil aviation regulator has conducted safety-related inspections of Turkish Airlines’ passenger and cargo flights at Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

Accordingly, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in accordance with ‘Article 16’ of the ‘Convention’ on International Civil Aviation (ICAO), conducted a ‘Safety Oversight and Ramp’ (SOFA/RAMP) inspection of these flights.

In a statement issued late on Wednesday night, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the inspections were carried out from May 29, 2025, to June 2, 2025.

“The inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with both international and national safety regulations,” the ministry said in a statement.

Consequently, the recent audit revealed several safety concerns with regard to Turkish Airlines’ flights, including marshaller handling ground operations at Bengaluru airport, which lacked proper authorisation and a valid competency card.

Additionally, an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) was unavailable during an aircraft’s arrival, and a technician carried out the procedure instead.

The audit also found issues with dangerous goods handling, including missing permissions from the DGCA for carrying explosives.

Besides, there was no ‘Service Level Agreement’ (SLA) in place between Turkish Airlines and its Ground Handling Agent (GHA).

Furthermore, equipment used for ground handling was also found to be lacking proper accountability and monitoring.

“Turkish Airlines has been directed to address these findings promptly and ensure full compliance with ICAO ‘Standards and Recommended Practices’ as well as DGCA regulations,” the statement said.

“Further follow-up inspections will be conducted as necessary to ensure continuous safety oversight.”
