Detective Ujjwalan teaser: Dhyan Sreenivasan locks horns with ‘Kokkachi’ in next installment of Weekend Cinematic Universe after Minnal Murali | Malayalam News

Detective Ujjwalan teaser: “Dad, why did you get scared when you heard about Kokkachi?” a boy asks his father, as the latter begins to narrate the tale of Kokkachi to his little boys in their home shrouded in darkness due to a power outage, with heavy rain and intense thunderstorms raging outside. “Kokkachi is real; I have seen it with my own eyes,” he reveals, sending chills down the spines of the kids. Amid the narration, we also see a masked figure, capable of evoking fear, and thus begins the teaser for the much-anticipated Malayalam movie Detective Ujjwalan.

The 96-second teaser soon cuts to offer glimpses of Ujjwalan, as narrated by others. “It’s not just coconut theft and boundary dispute cases that he handles, right?” we hear. Meanwhile, we also see someone gearing up to watch Alfred Hitchcock’s classic psychological horror movie Psycho (1960) on their VCR player. The promo then shows the local police deciding to seek Ujjwalan’s help after they find the body of a person who appears to have been brutally murdered.

As calls for his assistance rise, Ujjwalan (Dhyan Sreenivasan) enters the scene. With more similarly heinous crimes shaking the village and the authorities’ investigations leading nowhere, the local detective takes matters into his own hands. But will he be able to uncover the truth? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.

Interestingly, Detective Ujjwalan is part of the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU), which also includes director Basil Joseph’s globally acclaimed superhero film Minnal Murali (2021), which featured Tovino Thomas in the titular role. Written and directed by Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G, the movie, set in a bygone era, is produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters. The second installment in the WCU, Detective Ujjwalan features Lincy Varghese as the movie’s content head, with cinematography by Prem Akkattu, editing by Chaman Chakko, music by Rzee and art direction by Koyaz M.
