Impromptu Iftar
The meeting of Bihar Congress leadership with the party high command at the new AICC headquarters on Tuesday got delayed by an hour and went on well past the iftar time at 6.35 pm. At least five Muslim leaders present at the meeting were fasting, and arrangements for an impromptu meal were made. Everyone present at the meeting had kachoris, samosas and other snacks served for iftar. The meeting saw senior leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge take stock of the party’s preparations for the Bihar elections scheduled later this year.
Joining Cause
The Congress is likely to extend support to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s (AIMPLB) call for nationwide protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Several leaders in the party’s state units have been asked to take part in the AIMPLB’s protests in Patna on March 26 and Vijayawada on March 29. Besides these two cities, the Board is planning to hold more protests against the Bill in the coming days. The Congress, on its part, has made its stand clear that the Bill is “another assault” on the Constitution.
