Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying S P Singh Baghel rarely misses an opportunity to connect with folk artistes. On Thursday evening, Baghel was at the residence of Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth to attend Sarhul Milan Samaroh—a tribal festival of Jharkhand. Baghel took part in the traditional rituals, savoured the tribal cuisine and also danced with the folk artistes performing there, it is learnt.
Public Spat
Two MPs of a regional party had a public spat at the headquarters of the Election Commission of India where they had gone to give a representation. One gets to hear that the party had called its MPs to its Parliament office for collecting their signatures on the memorandum before going to the EC. But the MP who had the memorandum didn’t turn up in Parliament and came directly to the EC. This upset one of the MPs who confronted the other when they came face to face at the EC. The buzz is that the two shouted at each other and one of them even told the police personnel deployed there to intervene.
Flood For Pleas
Even as petitions against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill have already reached the Supreme Court, lawyers with knowledge of Waqf are flooded with requests, mainly from Muslim organisations and Opposition leaders, to draft petitions against the legislation. A lawyer said that there is a possibility that around 100 petitions are likely to be filed against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill before the apex court in the coming days. Another said that while the volume of pleas may be huge, the arguments in the pleas “are bound to be similar”.
