The Samajwadi Party (SP) has usually organised only district-level programmes to mark the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar on April 14. But this year, two days before the birth anniversary, Akhilesh Yadav will unveil Ambedkar’s statue in Etawah, the SP chief’s home district, as part of a grand programme. The party’s key Dalit leaders, including lawmakers, are expected to be on the stage. Etawah is an SC-reserved constituency and the local SP MP, Jitendra Kumar Dohare, is organising the programme as a part of the party’s ‘Ambedkar Jayanti Swabhiman Swaman Samaroh’.
Early Birds
While preparing for the launch of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Delhi government officials took the registration portal live for a few minutes for testing. That brief window was enough for six registrations to quickly take place. Ayushman cards were distributed to the first few beneficiaries in the capital on Thursday.
Tree Tradition
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was in Nepal for a meeting of agriculture ministers from BIMSTEC countries, visited the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. He and his family planted Rudraksha and Harsingar saplings in the temple premises, continuing Chouhan’s tradition of planting saplings.
