Cook held for raping housemaid in Worli

The Worli police in Mumbai have arrested a 23-year-old cook for allegedly assaulting and raping a 20-year-old domestic help in a luxury high-rise apartment while their employer — a prominent businesswoman — was abroad for work. Police said the accused also filmed the act and threatened to circulate the video if the survivor spoke about it.

According to the FIR, the incident took place last week in a residential tower in Worli. The survivor works as a house help at the residence of a well-known business couple who had recently travelled abroad for professional commitments. During their absence, only the maid and the cook were in the house.

Police said the accused allegedly grabbed the victim from behind, dragged her into the servants’ room, and assaulted her physically. “He tied her hands and legs with a dupatta, beat her up, and committed both sexual and unnatural sex acts,” an officer said.

The accused also allegedly recorded the assault and warned the survivor against speaking about the incident to anyone, threatening to upload the video on social media.

After managing to free herself, the domestic help ran to another room and called her employer overseas to narrate her ordeal. The employer told her not to panic and immediately alerted the police. Within half an hour, a police team reached the flat, where the woman provided her statement.

Forensic experts collected blood samples and other evidence from the scene. Based on the complaint, the Worli police registered a case under Sections 64, 115(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, assault, and unnatural offences.

While the accused was arrested recently, his lawyer, Adv Umesh Kumar claimed that his client has been “falsely implicated” in the case and had no involvement.

A police officer said that the investigation is ongoing to verify the authenticity of the video and gather digital evidence. The police confirmed that the accused is currently in judicial custody.
