Conspirators will not be spared says PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that those responsible for the Delhi blast, which killed at least eight, will not be spared.

On Monday, a Hyundai i20 car exploded near gate number one of the Red Fort metro station at about 6.52 pm, according to Delhi Police. While the cause of the blast is not yet clear, the police have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Explosives Act.

Speaking at an event in Bhutanese capital Thimphu on Tuesday, Modi said that he was “in touch with all the agencies investigating” the “horrific incident” overnight.

“Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy,” he said. “The conspirators behind this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice.”

The comment by Modi came just after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a similar statement, saying that the persons responsible will not be spared.

Speaking at the Delhi Defence Conference, Singh said that investigating agencies were conducting a swift and thorough inquiry into the incident. “The findings of the investigation will soon be made public,” he said.

“I want to firmly assure the nation that those responsible for this tragedy will be brought to justice and will not be spared under any circumstances,” Singh added.

The defence minister also expressed his condolences for those “who lost their lives in the tragic accident”.

On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the matter was being investigated in detail, and that “all angles were being kept open”.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said on Monday that the Hyundai i20 car, which had been moving slowly, had stopped at a red light when the explosion happened in the vehicle. Several other vehicles nearby were also damaged in the blast.
