Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will soon take a final decision on the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre, Rupali Chakankar chairperson of the State Woman’s Commission said on Thursday. Chakankar, who was on a visit to Pimpri Chinchwad in Pune, said she has been following up with the Chief Minister with regards to the alleged negligence of the hospital which resulted in the death of Tanisha Bhise.
“The Chief Minister has said that once the four reports are obtained, the concerned secretary would compile the four reports and present it to him. As a commission we have been following up on the case regularly,” she said.
Following the death of Bhise, four reports have been submitted — one each by the joint charity commissioner, the state health department, maternal and child death department of Pune Municipal Corporation and by Sassoon Hospital. The last one was submitted late on Tuesday night. Tanisha was the wife of BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe’s personal assistant and her death had caused state wide furore. Pune-based Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre had been in the eye of a storm as the seven months pregnant Bhise was apparently asked to pay Rs 10 lakh as a security deposit before she was admitted.
Meanwhile when asked about the security being provided by Pune Police to Dr Amit Ghaisas the consultant gynaecologist who has been receiving flak for his alleged role in Bhise’s death, Chakankar said she was unaware of it. “I will be speaking to Pune police commissioner in this regard,” she said. Dr Ghaisas had stepped down from the hospital board following the incident. Chakankar also said she has instructed hospitals run by charitable trusts to display the phone number 104 where patients can call in case they are unable to get admission.
