Cloudy skies bring relief in Pune from sorching heat | Pune News

After continuously high temperatures, Pune can expect some relief as cloudy skies resulted in slight relief from the scorching heat on Friday. This relief is expected to remain for a few days as cloudy sky conditions are expected to continue.

On Friday, Dhamdere was the hottest area in Pune district, with a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius. Shivajinagar was at 36.8 degrees while Koregaon Park recorded a high of 37.2. This was a drop from the 41 degrees that Koregaon Park had recorded a few days ago.

The present change in weather was mostly due to sudden moisture caused by the discontinuation of winds. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), said the local instability is expected to bring rain with thunder and lighting to parts of Vidharbha. Chances of hail are likely in Madhya Pradesh, Vidharbha, Telangana and other parts of the country. Pune will see some cloudy skies for the next two days.

Summer started early for Pune and has been exceptionally harsh. Right from the end of January, temperatures have breached the 35-degree mark, making it the hottest January in the last 10 years. The first half of March has also been exceptionally hot. The lack of cold winds from the North has resulted in black cotton soil and red soil heating up in the Deccan region, which has been the cause of higher than normal temperatures.
