The Chennai Super Kings on Friday announced the signing of former Mumbai Indians allrounder Dewald Brevis. The 21-year-old’s signing comes following the recent injury of pacer Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis will replace Gurjanpneet in the 2025 IPL squad for CSK. With one overseas spot left in their roster, CSK was able to make Brevis their second repalcement signing of the season. The first was Ayush Mhatre for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was forced to end his season early after breaking his elbow.
The South African’s career so far has seen him score 1787 runs over 81 T20 appearances. Brevis’ highest knock in the twenty over format stands tall at 162. On the International stage, Brevis has featured in two T20Is with South Africa ever since making his debut for them in 2023.
As for the injured 26-year-old Gurjapneet Singh, the pacer will end the 2025 IPL season with zero appearances for CSK. His name also finds spot in the list of most expensive players with no appearances in the IPL this season. Priced at a costly 2.2 crore, Gurjapneet has not been able to break into the CSK playing XI despite turning heads as one of their best bowlers in the nets. As for Brevis, despite a base price of 75 lakhs in the auction, CSK poured out 2.2 crore for his signature.

Prior to the official announcement on the IPL website, Brevis took to Instagram, as he posted a yellow screen on his feed, serving as a precursor to him joining the yellow army. Having played 10 matches for the Mumbai Indians franchise, the youngster has also been part of several other teams owned by the MI franchise – MI Cape Town and MI New York.
Brevis will join a depleted CSK side strugling for results, having only managed two wins in seven games, halfway through the season. His first game, if inlcuded in the squad, will be against former side and CSK’s eternal rivals Mumbai Indians.
