CONGRESS MP Manish Tewari on Thursday said Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal should make a statement in the House on alleged discovery of cash from the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma.
Speaking in LS during Zero Hour, Tewari said, “The reports about alleged aberrations in the judiciary have disturbed the conscience of all right-thinking citizens.” He said that “nobody is saying that anyone is innocent or guilty” and that “nobody is trying to apportion guilt”.
“The CJI has appointed an in-house inquiry, I think we should respect the process and wait for that report. However, in the meantime, the Law Minister should come to this House and relate the chronology of events as they have transpired,” he said.
“Under Articles of Constitution and the Judge’s (Inquiry) Act, this Parliament has the responsibility of exercising that superintendence… My demand is to let Law Minister come before this House and make a statement as to what actually transpired, what does the government know?” he said.
